“Since its founding in 1917, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists has been a pillar of the world-wide scientific community. The original purpose of AAPG, to foster scientific research, to advance the science of geology, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct, still guides the Association today. There’s some well-known story about AAPG-Student Chapter ( AAPG-SC ) in Indonesia. Our beloved college, Gadjah Mada University, especially Geological Engineering is also take a part in founding AAPG-SC in Indonesia. It was AAPG UGM-SC ( AAPG University of Gadjah Mada-Student Chapter).
A second flashback…
AAPG UGM-SC, was founded in 1997. Umi Akhdadiyah, was the first president. Along her period, AAPG UGM-SC, as the one of the main founders of SC in Indonesia, had a lot of Visiting Geologist programmed run. In 1998, Umi Akhdadiyah replaced by Ari. It was a hard period because they were very busy of their college and the committee have a very limited human resources. But then they start to established and recognize the SC.
The next president is Saufi Handri, Julianta Panjaitan, and Zeindra Ernando. Each of their period have their own achievement that made this Student Chapter proud of them, for example: the winner of L. Austin Weeks Grant 2006, attended IPA Convention 2006 at Jakarta Convention Centre, a lot of workshops, courses, seminars and there still a lot of the other achievement. The best result was in Rani Evelyn period. They attended SEAPEX at University of Padjajaran, Bandung. And the result is they got best poster in SEAPEX. Then the next president is Cindy Dhevayani Savitri who will continue to get the other achievement to strengthen the pride of this student chapter.

AAPG is the way to gather all of geologists, geophysicists even academian and student around the world to collaborate in geosciences, scientific research, to promote technology, and to inspire high professional conduct. Trough AAPG, all geosciences-student are united.
